Productivity ( or creativity or open-endedness )
It is a feature of all languages that novel utterances are continually being created. Human is the only living creature that has the ability to produce new utterances and words to express new situations. For example, when the internet was first invented, man used the word internet to express it. From fifty years ago their was nothing in the language called Internet. In the other hand, in animals kingdom we find that animals are unable to express new situations or unable to produce new utterances to describe the situation. For example. In one experiment. a hive of bees was placed at the foot of a radio tower and a food source at the top .Ten bees were taken to the top , shown the food source and sent off to tell the rest of the hive about their find . The message was conveyed via a bee dance. They flew around in all directions, but couldn't locate the food. The problem that the bee can express by dancing in horizontal distance, but it can't manipulate its communication system to create a new message indicating vertical distance. It means that the bees have no word for " UP " in their language and don't have the ability to produce it .Finally, I want to say in short that:-
Productivity means that the human language has the property of creating new utterances and words if there are new situation needs to do that
